Did you know that some of the things you put in the dishwasher are not good for your budget? This means the life of some of the things in your kitchen will cost you extra money. How much will depend on the cost of replacing some of the items? There are some expensive items in the kitchen that will be ruined by the dishwasher.
Here is the list:
This would include your cutting boards, items with wooden handles which would include knives and spoons. Wood will warp. Also, the dishwasher soap is abrasive. and will scratch the wood over time. The heat in the drying cycle will cause wood to warp and crack. These items should be hand washed. If you need a cleaning boost when washing wood try a bit of baking soda to scrub away stains. Wash your, cutting boards, by hand as soon as possible after using them but do not submerge them in water.
When you purchased your cast iron you began to season it. That took a lot of effort and time. If you put your cast iron in the dishwasher as a short cut it will no longer be seasoned and you will be subjecting it to rust. Cast Iron should be rinsed in hot water and scrubbed with a soft sponge to remove the food and then dried immediately wth a towel. Soap in the kitchen will remove the seasoning.
